Bacon’s Rebellion (1676-77):

Created Racial categories to prevent working class people from organizing against land owners.

Richard Allen and Absalom Jones (1786):

Tapped while worshiping at their Methodist church, told to move to the balcony because of racial segregation.

They walked out.

Manifest Destiny (1845):

The idea that God has destined colonists to capture land and subdue native peoples.

Biblical Justification for Chattel Slavery:

Curse of Cain implicated black people.

 

Women’s Suffrage (early 1920s):

Excluded black women from their movement
